The Idea Sparked in 2020
Every small business begins with a "why," and Ohana Sunshine is no exception. Our story starts with two sisters, KK and Chu, and their shared dream. During the global pandemic, as the world paused, they found a unique opportunity to reconnect. While reflecting on life and their shared values, Chu, who had spent her teenage years in Hawaii away from her family in Taiwan, introduced KK to a concept that had deeply shaped her—"Ohana," meaning family by blood and by choice. In Hawaii, Chu’s "Ohana" became her support system, helping her overcome the loneliness of being far from her family. This sense of connection and belonging became the foundation of Ohana Sunshine.
Our Mission
Ohana Sunshine's mission goes beyond creating high-quality socks; it fosters a sense of connection with every purchase. Crafted with care for comfort and durability, each pair supports local animal shelters through a portion of sales proceeds.
In early 2022, co-founder KK began volunteering at a Ventura County animal shelter and also fostering dogs from euthanasia lists from Los Angeles shelters. She saw firsthand the increase in abandoned animals due to the pandemic, backyard breeding, and economic hardships. This experience reinforced Ohana Sunshine’s commitment to animals as part of its extended "Ohana." A key part of the brand’s mission is transparently donating a portion of sales to support shelters, ensuring customers can see the impact of their contributions.
